Who We Are

There’s nothing new about making quilts for veterans, but three quilty friends recognized a disconnect between the modern quilting movement and the quilts typically made to honor those who have served our country. So they decided to step up to try to bridge that gap, and Modern Service Quilts was born. We’re so glad to welcome you on our journey.

Lilo Whitener-Fey

Lilo grew up in a family of quilters and while stubbornly avoiding it through childhood, is the current president of the St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild and the owner/operator of Trace Creek Quilting, a longarm quilting and memory quilt service company. She loves how quilts can bring generations together and works to foster connections between those traditional feelings of nostalgia and comfort and the modern quilting aesthetic.

Kristy has been sewing since she was a child and quilting for almost as long. As the founder and a past president of the St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild, she loves to educate others about the modern quilting aesthetic and bring quilting to a new audience. Jessica Schunke

Jessica began sewing and quilting in 2009, shortly after moving to St. Louis from her home state of Texas and finding that a new hobby was a good way to get settled and meet new friends. A former president and secretary of the St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild, Jessica is an editor by trade who’s bridged the gap between her work and craft, writing and tech editing a growing number of her own and other designers’ patterns.

Christine Boyd

Christine is a fresh recruit to the quilting world - just recently joining the fun in 2019. As a graphic designer always looking for new creative outlets, what started out as a new hobby quickly turned into a passion for the modern quilting community. Christine is currently serving as the secretary of the St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild and enjoys bringing her knowledge of color theory, design, and marketing into her work in the quilting community.
